Broadleaf Weed – Florida Pellitory

(Parietaria floridana)

Also sometimes referred to as Parietaria floridana, Florida Pellitory are annual and sometimes perennial broadleaf weeds that thrive in moist woods and shady areas. Parietaria floridana can be found throughout much of the southeastern United States, but can also grow as far west as Texas.

Identifying Florida Pellitory -

Florida Pellitory can be identified by its round stems and leaves, which are watery, fleshy and pale green in color. The leaves are thin with a short rounded tip and have three prominently raised veins underneath when fresh, and clearly raised dots on the surface when dry.

Florida Pellitory Control -

Proper cultural practices, such as proper mowing and watering, can help to prevent Florida Pellitory by creating dense turf, which inhibits the weed’s ability to grow. Physical removal (i.e. “weed pulling”) can be effective, although you will run the risk of spreading the seeds to additional areas of your lawn and landscaping.
